Wild finish
No. 1 Arizona held on against No. 13 BYU in a game that looked it was going to be a blowout, but came down to the final moments. Plus: Duke crushes Louisville, Bediako's eligibility extended, updates on games and the winter storm, impact of international players, and much more.
We’re 13 weeks into the season and three teams are 20-0 or better: Nebraska, Miami (Ohio) and Arizona (more on them in a bit). It’s the fifth time since 1948-49 that three teams started 20-0. What a season.
Let’s get to Monday’s news, starting with the No. 1 Wildcats.

1. Arizona thrives, then survives for win at BYU
For as good as Brayden Burries was in the first half, his best moment during Monday’s thrilling 86-83 win over No. 13 BYU came in the final moments.
No. 1 Arizona controlled much of the game as Burries and Jaden Bradley dominated the first 25 minutes. The pair had as many points as the Cougars with 15:56 remaining and Arizona up 55-41. The Wildcats (21-0, 8-0) maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half and led by as many as 19 points.
But BYU (17-3, 5-2) chipped away at the big lead, then surged with a 12-2 run in the final minute — aided by some questionable calls in front of the home crowd — that cut the Arizona lead to one point. Cue the dramatic final moments:
“Fortunately they didn't call a foul,” coach Tommy Lloyd said. “We had the same situation at home against them last year, they got down close to the rim and they called a foul and we lost the game. Just how it goes sometimes.”
Burries finished with 29 points, while Bradley had 26. The win matched the best start in Arizona program history.
It was a remarkable finish considering BYU couldn’t contain Arizona’s offense at all. The Wildcats dominated at the rim, and even when BYU did thwart Burries or Bradley (this Keba Keita block was something), it couldn’t get anything going until the second half. It made 10-of-20 3-pointers in the final 20 minutes (it was 13-of-34 overall) and never really got Wright (3-of-16, 7 points) going.
Freshman AJ Dybantsa finished with a team-high 24 points, but needed 24 shots to do it. It was a contrast to BYU’s other would-be marquee comeback this season when it nearly overcame a 21-point deficit vs. UConn and Dybantsa had 25 points on 14 shots. Not that the outcome worries coach Kevin Young.
“We’re right there with every team in the country,” Young said. “I thought that before the game and I think it just as much as I do now.”
2. Duke handles Louisville again + more results
Duke ran away from Louisville earlier this month, but the Cardinals didn’t have star freshman Mikel Brown Jr. in that game. His return didn’t change things in the rematch.
