Top-30 class of 2028 prospect Malik Moore sets official visit, evaluates summer

Ever since NBPA Top 100 camp in early June, class of 2028 four-star point guard Malik Moore has been playing with a different mentality.

During that camp, Moore learned from several NBA guards, including Kyrie Irving. His main takeaway? The physicality it takes to be a high level guard in today’s world.

“That's something I really want to embody and really add to my game: being physical,” Moore said. “Off the ball, on the ball, trying to get rebounds, hitting somebody -- that's something that's changed my game a whole bunch.”

Since NBPA, the point guard has taken what he’s learned and put it into practice at Nike Elite 100 Camp. There, Moore led Team Los Angeles to the tournament championship and stood out to several coaches in the process.

Specifically, Moore showed his defensive intensity by picking up full court and pestering opposing guards all game. He also took his teammates, class of 2029 point guard Jordan McDaniel, under his wing.

“We were playing really hard against each other,” Moore said of mentoring McDaniel. “We were never on the same team when we were doing drills. We were just always pushing each other, picking each other up full court, playing really hard, whatever... We were just trying to push each other so we could win. The first day we lost our second game and we were like, 'We're not losing anymore.'“

And they didn’t. Team Los Angeles finished out the week 10-1 overall en route to the tournament championship, and Moore was undoubtedly their leader. The point guard will look to bring the momentum he gained from Elite 100 to the PSA Cardinals to close out July.

“The first session we didn't really play that well,” Moore said of his summer with PSA. “We played some really good teams. It was kind of like an awakening like, 'Yo, we got to tighten up.' Session 2 we tightened up, went 3-1, so now we have an even record. This next session we're trying to keep that momentum going and go 5-0 so we can end out EYBL 9-4 and then make Peach Jam. But really, the main focus has just been winning. Not really too concerned about the stats but just impacting winning, and I'm trying to win Peach Jam.”

In eight games with PSA at the 16u level, Moore has averaged 7.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals. While the stats don’t necessarily pop off the page, Moore has done everything he can to contribute to winning.

“Malik’s biggest jump this summer has been his growth as a pass-first point guard,” PSA 16u head coach Gustave Koumare said. “His court vision has really opened up, and he’s learning to use pace and angles instead of just his athleticism to break defenders down. He’s also matured a ton as a leader; he’s determined, competitive, and genuinely wants his teammates to get better right alongside him.”

As far as his recruitment, Moore currently holds offers from Creighton, East Carolina, Hampton, Manhattan, Penn State, Providence, San Diego, VCU and Virginia Tech. He’s also heard from Auburn, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Seton Hall, Syracuse, UCF and West Virginia since the June 15 contact period opened.
