The portal's closed. Now what?
Tuesday's late additions were mostly older players without eligibility. Now they'll wait for an NCAA longshot ruling. Meanwhile, Des Claude headlined the latest entrants, while USC already found his replacement. Plus: Gonzaga and Duke got essential players to return, Illinois added another international prospect, and much more.
That’ll do it for players entering the transfer portal for this cycle. More than 2,500 players submitted their names. That includes roughly 250 walk-ons and another 200 that are out of eligibility. In fact, most of the late entries last night were players without eligibility.
So let’s get into what happened on Tuesday.
Let Us Do The Heavy Lifting
Students have bigger things to worry about right now than moving, so don't bother with buying boxes, renting trucks, or coordinating move out logistics.
Here’s the deal:
We bring boxes to your students
We pick up everything from their room
We keep it safe all summer
We deliver it to their new place next semester, on or off campus
Storage Scholars handles everything you need to transition into summer break without breaking the bank.

1. USC’s Claude headlines last batch of portal entrants
So. Barring any coaching changes, no other players can enter the transfer portal. That includes graduate transfers, who until this season could enter at any time.
The only portal entry exceptions are if a program has a coaching change. Then a player has 30 days to enter his name into the portal.
That means about 44% of the sport’s total 5,607 players from the 2024-25 season entered the portal, including walk-ons and all those players without eligibility. It’s also a big jump from the 2,083 players who entered last season.
And all those players hoping for an extra year of eligibility? They won’t know anything until after the House v. NCAA settlement is finalized. That ruling likely will happen in the next few weeks.
As for Tuesday, the biggest name who hit the portal was USC guard Desmond Claude, who also hit the portal last year. The 6-6 guard averaged 15.8 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 4.2 assists. The only hole in Claude’s game is perimeter shooting, as he went 23-for-75 (30%) from deep.
USC coach Eric Musselman already made one move to replace Claude’s production (we’ll get into that later), but it’ll be interesting if the Trojans try to push for a big name, such as P.J. Haggerty.
