The last 10 days in college hoops

From summer injuries that hit three power conference teams to scheduling announcements, player movement, and NIL updates, we're covering everything that happened since June 13.

Good morning! We’re back after some overdue R&R. There wasn’t any massive college basketball news last week, but there were some notable injuries, plenty of schedule announcements and player moves. And that’s just for starters.

So let’s get to it.

1. Depth now an issue for Michigan St., Illinois, Iowa St.?

One of Michigan State’s best assets during its run to a 30-7 season and a regular-season Big Ten title was its depth where the Spartans essentially went two deep at every position. That won’t be the case next season.

The Spartans have their usual array of incoming freshmen (two 4-stars and a 3-star), while coach Tom Izzo added three transfers to bolster their core of returning starters Jeremy Fears Jr. and Jaxson Kohler, plus presumed starters Coen Carr and Carson Cooper.

Except it’s now two transfers since FAU transfer Kaleb Glenn suffered a season-ending injury last week.

Glenn, a 6-6 junior who averaged 12.6 ppg and 4.8 rpg this season, was expected to be Carr’s backup at the three for some guard/wing depth. That now puts pressure on one of (or both) the freshmen, Cam Ward or Jordan Scott, to play more minutes right away.

Illinois is in a similar spot.

Versatile senior Ty Rodgers is out indefinitely after injuring his knee last week. The 6-6 guard/wing redshirted last season and has never been a reliable offensive option, but his defense and basketball IQ were always an asset, especially on a team that’ll have three returning starters … but not much else from this season.

There’s plenty of talent in newcomers Mihailo Petrovic and David Mirkovic, along with Cal transfer Andrej Stojakovic and Arkansas transfer Zvonimir Ivisic. That’s seven players, but how quickly they mesh and the relative lack of guard depth might be a concern.

Coach Brad Underwood says the Illini won’t fill Rodgers’ roster spot with just anyone, but also won’t ignore options.

Finally, new Iowa State guard Mason Williams likely will miss the 2025-26 season after hip surgery. The 6-5 junior averaged 13.9 ppg and 3.4 rpg this season and was expected to be one of the Cyclones’ top bench options.

Iowa State also has three returning starters, but Williams was one of four transfers and three incoming freshmen. The Cyclones have really only played seven guys the last two seasons, so depth might not be as big of a worry as it’ll be for Illinois or Michigan State, but it’ll still hurt.

2. SEC, A-10, CAA schedule pairings + more schedule notes

The never-ending series of 2025-26 college hoops scheduling announcements continued over the last week with the SEC, A-10 and CAA sending out their schedule pairings, along with a handful of MTE schedules, home-and-home announcements and non-conference slates.

Let’s get it all in one place.
