1. Team USA smashes records; U19 World Cup quarters set

It was day at the U19 World Cup where college basketball fans were able to catch a glimpse of its future stars amid great individual games and performances.

And nobody had a better Wednesday than Team USA.

Its 140-67 over Jordan set several records.

  • The 140 points is the highest single-game total Team USA history and second all-time in the U19 event.

  • Tommy Lloyd’s squad made an event record 59 field goals, 52 two-point field goals and finished an all-time high 31 steals and 212 efficiency rating.

  • Team USA also dished out 41 assists and forced 37 turnovers, both second in U19 World Cup play history.

Five-star class of 2026 prospect Tyran Stokes made a statement with his triple-double and emphatic dunks, and Morez Johnson and Daniel Jacobsen gave Michigan and Purdue fans more to be excited about. Eight total players ended in double-figures.

Other players to stand out from Wednesday’s quarterfinals?

  • How about Israels’s Oscar Mayer, who’s electric shot-making display and 33-point, seven-assist outing turned college basketball Twitter into a frenzy. Purdue sure looks like a capable Final Four team if Mayer shoots like this. Israel plays Slovenia in Friday’s quarterfinals.

  • New Zealand guard and UC Irvine commit Tama Isaac displayed an impressive array of shotmaking and passing in New Zealand’s 99-86 win over China. He finished with 18 points, eight assists and six rebounds and hit 3-of-8 shots from the outside.

  • USF commit Tristan Beckford (16 points, five steals), Butler commit Efeosa Oliogu (14 points, three steals) and class of 2026 prospect Aziz Olajuwon (14 pts, five rebounds), the son of Hakeem Olajuwon, all shined for Team Canada in its 100-75 rout of Mali. It’ll be Canada-USA in the quarterfinals.

  • The big man duo of Washington’s Hannes Steinbach and UConn’s Eric Reibe looked unstoppable at times in Germany’s 92-83 win over Serbia. Steinbach had 23 points and 19 rebounds while Reibe tallied 25-8. Washington could be a tournament team with what looks to be an international gem, and Dan Hurley may just have his next lottery-caliber big.

  • Another future Huskie, Jacob Furphy, continued his success for Team Australia, finishing with 24 points with five triples in a 106-96 win over the Dominican Republic. Australia draws Germany in the quarterfinals on Friday.
