1. On Cam Boozer’s magnificent Thanksgiving
Cameron Boozer continued to make the case that he’s the nation’s top freshman. And maybe its best player.
He was superb for No. 4 Duke in an 80-71 win over No. 22 Arkansas Thursday night at the United Center.
Whether it was scoring in the post, face-up against his defense or finding teammates for one of his three assists, Boozer was marvelous throughout, and especially down the stretch when Duke (8-0) needed him most.
He and Caleb Foster (15 points) scored all of Duke’s final 14 points in a decisive run that saw the Blue Devils recover from a blown lead and a seven-point deficit. They combined for 33 of Duke’s 39 second-half points.
“The weren’t doubling this game,” Boozer said afterward. “Last couple games I hadn’t been finishing strong at the rim, so that was a big emphasis for me this game.”
Arkansas coach John Calipari was impressed by Boozer’s play — “He was a beast” — and said his team’s inability to consistently rebound and not play one-on-one down the stretch was the difference.
The Razorbacks (5-2) got 21 points from freshman Darius Acuff, who sparked their strong play to start the second half when their 10-3 run pushed them to a 60-53 lead. But they couldn’t contain Boozer and Foster in the final minutes.
They’ll have to adjust for their next game when they play Louisville on Wednesday. Duke hosts Florida on Tuesday.
2. Fears keys yet another impressive Spartans’ win
North Carolina had the high flyer, but Michigan State had the best player on Thursday.
