1. Michigan loses Brandon McCoy Jr. for season

There's nothing more gut-wrenching than a season-ending injury before the season even starts.

Michigan got the tough, but expected news that five-star freshman Brandon McCoy suffered a torn ACL. The five-star wing suffered the injury less than a minute into an exhibition game against KK Mega Superbet on the Wolverines' foreign tour. He played well in their first two games, averaging 14.5 ppg.

For McCoy, it’s an unfortunate blow, as he was projected to be a one-and-done, first round NBA Draft pick. The task will also be even tougher for Mike Boynton Jr. in his first year as the head coach in Ann Arbor without one of his starters.

Boynton Jr. has a couple of options to replace McCoy. One is a fellow freshman, Quinn Costello, who's a bit of a positional tweener. His 6-10, 195-pound frame is a little thin to play the four (he can add weight), but is he quick enough to hang with wings defensively? He'll likely get a look.

That would give Michigan a MASSIVE lineup. You won't find many bigger forward trios than Costello at 6-10, JP Estrella at 6-11 and Moustapha Thiam at 7-2.

The ideal option, though, is someone not currently on the roster: Roddy Gayle Jr., who averaged 7.7 ppg as a key reserve on Michigan's title-winning squad.

Gayle filed a lawsuit with the Niagara County Supreme Court for a fifth season of eligibility. He plans to return to Michigan if he gets an extra year and would slot in perfectly at the 3.

2. The NCAA’s latest court win + a fifth-year commit

The NCAA received another positive court ruling on Tuesday.

After getting "stays" in state cases in Ohio and Tennessee, as well as the federal case in Colorado, the NCAA got another win in South Carolina.
