Still unbeaten, but not perfect

Arizona needs late surge to beat Cincy, while Nebraska suffers a key injury in its win. Plus: Northwestern ruins a 5-star debut, Murray State surprised in MVC, impending winter storm affecting games, and a deep dive on Alabama and Charles Bediako.

Good morning! It’s a good day to check your eligibility.

Let's get to Wednesday’s news.

1. Arizona, Nebraska continue unbeaten starts

No. 1 Arizona used every bit of its size to maintain its perfect record on Wednesday night in Tucson, beating Cincinnati 77-51.

The Wildcats (19-0, 6-0 in Big 12) went back and forth with the Bearcats (10-9, 2-4) to start the game. Cincy posted a 14-1 run early on, and lead 20-16 midway through the first half. But Arizona worked its way to a six-point halftime lead, then pulled away in the second half by doing what it does best: Get the ball inside.

Motiejus Krivas scored 17 points and helped key a 20-4 run in the second half that proved to be the difference. Arizona had a 48-14 advantage in the paint and limited Cincy to just .78 points per possession. It just wears opponents down.

Arizona hosts West Virginia on Saturday.

No. 7 Nebraska extended its win streak to 23 games (dating back to last season) with a 76-66 home win over Washington.

The Huskers (19-0, 8-0 in Big Ten) cruised to a double-digit first half lead and looked like it might have no trouble, but it did lose freshman guard Braden Frager in the first half to an ankle injury. He spent the second half on the bench in a walking boot.

“He’s pretty sore,” coach Fred Hoiberg said. “We’ll know more tomorrow, don’t want to say too much until we see how he does overnight. … right now, it’s just an ankle sprain.”

Pryce Sandfort led the Huskers with 23 points, while three other players scored in double figures.

They’re at Minnesota on Saturday.

2. Northwestern snaps skid, ruins Arenas’ debut

If a team was ever better than what its league record showed, that was Northwestern.
