1. Bill Self is BACK

No, this wasn’t an April Fools joke. The winningest coach in Kansas basketball history, Bill Self, will be back on the sidelines coaching the Jayhawks next season.

The announcement from Self, 63, comes just over a week after Kansas was eliminated in the Sweet 16 by St. John’s. After that loss, Self said he’d go back and discuss his future with his family.

Self has dealt with a myriad health issues in recent years. He missed the Colorado game in January and was taken to the hospital due to being under the weather. He was also admitted to the hospital in July 2025 to have two stents inserted, treating blocked arteries. Then, of course, Self missed Kansas’ 2023 Big 12 Tournament and March Madness runs after a heart catheterization procedure.

After St. John’s, Self said he was feeling “as good as I’ve felt in a long time.” Now, he’ll officially be back coaching his 23rd season at Kansas, where he’s amassed a career record of 648-167 with two national titles.

The next step for Kansas is player retention, assessing transfer portal targets, and potentially landing the top prospect in the class of 2026.
