Scarier than ever
Arizona's got an additional perimeter/scoring threat with freshman Brayden Burries, as it showed vs. Bama. Plus: Kentucky showed some heart, Nebraska just keeps winning, Arkansas could win it all, and much more from a loaded weekend.
Good morning! Monday hit different after a packed college hoops weekend. Let’s dive in.

1. Brayden Burries’ coming out party sinks Bama
In Arizona’s first five games with wins against Florida, UConn and UCLA, 5-star freshman Brayden Burries averaged just 7.8 points. The 6-4 guard was mostly a non-factor, but No. 1 Arizona still found ways to win.
Burries seems to have found his stride, which is a scary thought for the rest of the sport.
The freshman guard dropped a career-high 28 points in Arizona’s 96-75 rout of No. 12 Alabama in Birmingham on Saturday, including a second-half stretch where he scored 15-straight points in four minutes. His personal surge completely blew the game open.
“It was pretty special, some of those threes he makes in transition,” coach Tommy Lloyd said postgame. “That’s the stuff we’ve seen him do when we were recruiting him, so to see him do it on this stage was pretty cool.” Burries is averaging 19.8 ppg over the last four games.
With Saturday’s win, Arizona (9-0) is the first team in 30 years to have five ranked wins across its first nine games, per Matt Norlander. The Wildcats have THE best resume in the country. Burries gives the Wildcats additional 3-point shooting to its elite frontline and closer Jaden Bradley.
This team has weapons everywhere, which is why Arizona has the argument over Michigan as the nation’s best team.
As for Alabama (7-3), the Tide were out-rebounded 52-32, and Nate Oats said they won’t beat a good team until they get better on the glass. They do have some time to work on it before SEC play begins with home games vs. South Florida, Yale and a Huntsville game vs. Kennesaw State.
2. Wildcats ‘bring back some belief’ vs. Indiana
During Kentucky’s lackluster start to the season, former players questioned the players’ effort after losses.
That effort changed on Saturday.
