1. Beckham Black leading hot Team USA start
Entering the 2026 FIBA U17 World Cup in Istanbul, Turkey, Team USA had never lost a game in the event. 51-0. Seven gold medals.
That trend continued over the weekend with Team USA picking up a 128-66 win over Japan and a 115-84 win over France to open up the tournament.
In the two games so far, class of 2027 five-star point guard Beckham Black has stolen the show, notching 23 points and four assists against France and following that with 19 points and 10 assists against Japan.
Black, the younger brother of Orlando Magic guard Anthony Black, currently sits sixth in scoring (21.0 ppg) in the entire tournament while playing 10 fewer minutes per game than everyone ahead of him.
AJ Williams, the No. 1 player in the 2028 class, has also impressed, scoring a team-high 25 points against Japan on his birthday. He also knocked down five triples, contributing to Team USA’s single-game record of 14.
Others to stand out so far include Duke bound Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje, who set a record with seven blocks against Japan, and 2027 five-star Jordan Page. You can see everyone’s statistics so far here.
Team USA will play Italy on Tuesday, June 30, at 5 a.m. ET, for its last game of group play. Bracket play and elimination games will start on Wednesday, July 1. All games are streamed on the FIBA YouTube page.
2. Arizona, Texas Tech land commitments
After Tommy Lloyd lost Koa Peat to the NBA Draft, you knew he’d have something up his sleeve to try and replace his production.
It looks as if Lloyd has found his man, as Arizona signed Montenegrin forward Maksim Brnovic.
