1. John Calipari’s next guard

Coach Cal has landed his fair share of elite guards over the years. Class of 2027 four-star Davion Thompson became the latest example on Wednesday.

The 6-2 point guard and top-20 prospect announced his commitment to the Razorbacks, choosing Arkansas over his other finalists of Baylor, Michigan and Vanderbilt.

Thompson is one of the best shooters in the 2027 class, averaging 21.7 points per game while shooting 51.9% from 3 on the Nike EYBL circuit this summer. The lefty is also a smooth operator with unique pace.

Really, he’s the quintessential Calipari guard.

“They’ve been recruiting me for so long and have been on me heavy,” Thompson said of Arkansas during his live announcement. “Coach Cal, he’s a great guy. He puts guys in the league and he’s a family guy. Why not go play for him, one of the best coaches ever?”

Thompson becomes the first commit for Arkansas out of the 2027 class, but it’s been heavily speculated that he’ll reclassify and enroll at Arkansas to join the 2026-27 team. A final decision has not yet been made.

However, a move to 2026 would make sense from a roster standpoint, as the Razorbacks could use another ball handler. Only Georgia transfer Jeremiah Wilkinson and incoming freshman Jordan Smith Jr. are seen as point guards, and both could end up in the starting lineup.

Here’s some more commits from Wednesday:
