The NCAA's initial NET ratings came out Monday. Let's ignore the furor and examine the numbers, shall we? Plus, Painter on Purdue's bounce-back win, Big East vs. Big 12 and much more.

After that wild weekend, I was ready for quiet night in college hoops. But that discourse around the NET ratings? That’s something else.

Let's get to it..

1. Comparing NET to other other rating systems

Everyone’s favorite rating system — aside from the BCS; how people miss the BCS! — is back. The first D-I men’s NET ratings for the season dropped on Monday, and you would’ve thought the CFB playoff committee was behind the ratings.

Examples:

Is the NET perfect? Nah. But it’s simply a tool used to to evaluate how teams have performed thus far because, as David Worlock notes, it doesn’t include any preseason data/bias.

In fact, when compared to other computer ratings and the AP poll, the NET isn’t much different.
