Before we start today’s newsletter, our thoughts go out to the family of Chris Spatola, who passed away unexpectedly on Monday. Spatola was a four-year starter at West Point, an assistant at Duke under his father-in-law Mike Krzyzewski and had recently served as a basketball analyst for ESPN. He was 47 and is survived by his wife, Jamie, and three children.

1. Northwestern lands highest-ranked recruit in school history

It was a historic day in Evanston!

Northwestern secured a commitment from Jeremiah Profit, a 6-5 wing in the Class of 2027, who’s the highest-rated recruit in program history. The previous No. 1 recruit was Class of 2026 wing Jayden Hodge.

Profit features ideal length for a wing and should be able to contribute right away. The one aspect of Profit's game he could work during his senior year at Rancho Christian is shooting. He shot 28% from 3 during his 3SSB season.

It’s a major win for Chris Collins to not only land a recruit of Profit’s level, but also beat out a bunch of West Coast schools for a West Coast kid.

Profit said he chose Northwestern because it was the best fit and gives him an opportunity to compete in the Big Ten while receiving a great education. He knew Northwestern was home after his official visit this past weekend.

“The biggest thing was how genuine they were throughout the whole process,” Profit told The Field of 68. “They consistently showed me that they believed in me as a player and as a person, and they were always honest with me about where I fit into their plans. I built a really strong relationship with the staff, and over time that trust made the decision pretty easy for me. They recruited a guy from the same program as me, so already felt some ties there. Just felt like the things they valued were the same things that I did, and that was huge for me.”
