Portal prizes, Top 100 rankings
Michigan, Providence add big pieces to 2026-27 rosters. Plus: We rank the Top 100 players in the portal, highlight Thursday's notable entrants, the NBA decisions for Houston and Stanford, and the big return for Saint Louis.
Good morning! Michigan’s week got the cherry on top yesterday when Final Four Most Outstanding Player Elliot Cadeau announced he’ll be back in Ann Arbor for his senior season.
That news came just hours after the Wolverines landed one of the biggest prizes of the transfer portal. Can’t wait to see what Dusty May does next.
Let’s get to the rest of Thursday’s news.
In partnership with D1.relocation

1. Michigan, Providence land transfer prizes
Michigan won the national title largely through its work in the 2025 transfer portal. Well, Dusty May’s program is already off to a solid start in 2026 by adding Tennessee big man JP Estrella.
A former top-100 prospect, Estrella is a 6-11 rising sophomore who spent the first two years at Tennessee. He’s coming off productive 10 ppg and 5.4 rpg on 60% FG shooting season in which he started 13 games, and played 18 mpg. The big man had five double-doubles, including 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Round of 64 win over Miami University.
That kind of production may not seem significant, but Estrella will be a prime candidate for a breakout season due to his efficiency, skill and passing. And this was before he committed to Michigan!
The Wolverines will need that kind of production, too. Yaxel Lendeborg is no longer eligible, while both Morez Johnson and Aday Mara may both hit the NBA Draft. Expect them to add at least one more impact frontcourt player.
Thursday’s other key pickup came in the Big East as new Providence coach Bryan Hodgson added Miles Byrd, a 6-7 wing from San Diego State.
Byrd spent four years with the Aztecs, starting 62 games and averaging 10.4 ppg, 4.7 rpg, and 2.6 apg last season. But his claim to fame was defense. He was the Mountain West DPOY this season. Opponents shot below 30% against him.
Providence already has forward Ryan Mela returning. The Friars also made news with the addition of Dink Pate, a former 5-star prospect out of high school who spurned college for the NBA. He’s been in the G-League for the past few years, averaging 16 ppg this past season. The next step will be to see whether star guard Wes Enis, currently in the portal, follows Hodgson from South Florida.
Other Thursday commitments:
Deondrea Lindsey to Tennessee State
Gavin Headings to Cleveland State
Damarion Winston to Texas-A&M Corpus Christi
Clarence Payia to Green Bay
Simon Majok to Nevada
Filip Jokic to UCLA
Sergej Macura to UCLA
Sam Orme to Nebraska
Fred Smith, to Memphis
