1. Purdue hands Ohio State big win

Who’s had a better week than Ohio State?

One day after its football team won the national title, the men’s hoops team pulled off a remarkable 16-point comeback to stun No. 11 Purdue, 73-70, on Tuesday night. It wasn’t quite the same as Monday, but pulling off a road win to end a three-game losing streak> Not too bad.

“We were due,” coach Jake Diebler said postgame. “I think there’s a reality to that.”

This was a game of runs.

The Buckeyes opened the second half with a 17-2 run to erase a deficit and grab a two-point lead. Purdue led again by a six with 7:22 to play, but Ohio State had another counter, this time a 14-0 surge, only for the Boilermakers to answer with an 8-0 run, cutting it to 68-67 Ohio State. In the final moments, freshman guard John Mobley Jr. sank a crucial jumper with 29 seconds remaining, and Ohio State iced the game at the free-throw line.

Ohio State senior guard Micah Parrish had a career night with 22 points, followed by sophomore guard Devin Royal (16 points) and senior guard Bruce Thorton (11 points). Ohio State’s 11-of-23 (48%) 3-point shooting compared to Purdue’s 3-of-9 clip was the biggest difference. Purdue (15-5, 7-2 in Big Ten) scored 30 points off 18 Ohio State turnovers, but the Buckeyes still got it done.

The Buckeyes (11-8, 3-5) have played in five-straight one possession games and have won just two of them. Diebler is now 2-0 vs. Matt Painter including a win against the Boilermakers last year when Purdue was No. 2.

2. UConn needs overtime to top Butler

It’s safe to say that UConn needs freshman guard Liam McNeeley back. And soon.
