Mountain West hitting new heights?

Nevada's win in the Diamond Head Classic keeps five MWC programs in the Top 40 of the NET. Can it keep it up? Plus, Fears out of hospital, and Four Questions with Grand Canyon coach Bryce Drew.

Hey there, and welcome back. The games haven’t restarted yet, so this’ll be a shorter in-season Daily than normal.

Let's get to it.

1. Nevada’s Diamond Head win also a win for the MWC

Nevada made the most of its trip to Hawai’i: Four games, four wins, and a Diamond Head Classic title.

Not a bad way to spend a Christmas holiday.

The Wolf Pack got 30 points from Kenan Blackshear in Sunday’s 72-64 win over Georgia Tech, the second time this season he’s topped 30. He only missed three shots, going 11-of-14 from the field. Nevada (12-1) was 49% overall, and held the Yellow Jackets (8-4) to just .96 points per possession, their worst offensive performance since a loss to Georgia earlier this month.

(Also, props to the Wolf Pack, who are 10-3 vs. the spread this season, a solid indicator of a good team.)

It’s now five in a row for Nevada, which now has wins against schools in the Pac-12 (Washington), Big 12 (TCU) and ACC. That kind of performance has done wonders for Nevada’s NET rating — not to mention the rest of the Mountain West.
