NBA Draft delights
Dalton Knecht didn't go in the NBA Draft lottery, but he might have been Round 1's biggest winner. Other thoughts from the night, plus Oklahoma State added depth, NIL insights and more.
Good morning! Hope your NBA Draft experience had the same joie de vivre as Zaccharie Risacher.
This cannabis startup pioneered “rapid onset” gummies
Most people prefer to smoke cannabis but that isn’t an option if you’re at work or in public.
That’s why we were so excited when we found out about Mood’s new Rapid Onset THC Gummies. They can take effect in as little as 5 minutes without the need for a lighter, lingering smells or any coughing.
Nobody will ever know you’re enjoying some THC.
We recommend you try them out because they offer a 100% money-back guarantee. And for a limited time, you can receive 20% off with code FIRST20.
1. Which NBA teams had Round 1 luck?
Did Dalton Knecht want to be a NBA Draft lottery pick? Sure. But after “Dalton Knecht” was shown early during the TV broadcast, you knew it might be a strange night for the Tennessee All-American wing.
But it ended up just fine.
The Los Angeles Lakers took the 6-7 scoring machine at 17 overall, one of those serendipitous draft moves that’ll be great for Knecht — the Lakers could really use a scorer — and the Lakers — LeBron James isn’t getting any younger. Playing with a 23-year-old who’s a three-level scorer should be just what LeBron needs.
“We would have never imagined a player as skilled and perfect for our needs would be there [at 17],” Lakers GM Rob Pelinka said on Wednesday night.
But don’t take my word for it. I’ll defer to David Aldridge if you like.
I don't get this. I know he's 23. But Dalton Knecht had a top-10 grade for the last two months. I can't believe the Lakers get the SEC's leading scorer and Player of the Year at 17. That kid can play.

From a college player POV, Knecht wasn’t the only player who hit the right scenario. In no particular order, here are the ones I liked most:
Creighton wing Baylor Scheierman got drafted by the NBA champion Boston Celtics at No. 30. Adding a 6-6 wing who’s a career 39% 3-point shooter, who can rebound and is smart enough to contribute right away? That’s a win.
I don’t know if Jared McCain will start next to Tyrese Maxey in Philly, but I do know that’s a scary backcourt. Miami will regret passing on him at No. 15.
Count me in the pro-Zach Edey camp. The Grizz got a two-time NPOY at No. 9 overall, and someone who’ll be tough to handle down low and give them a different look when he’s on the court.
DaRon Holmes II got drafted by Phoenix at No. 22, but was later traded to Denver. As a rule, playing with Nicola Jokic is a good thing. Especially when you’re a 6-9 forward who can stretch the floor and potentially serve as Aaron Gordon’s eventual replacement.
Beyond that, I really like Reed Sheppard, Steph Castle, Devin Carter and Terrence Shannon as players, but dunno about the fits with their new teams.
2. What to expect in Round 2 tonight
First off: Circle Pick No. 55. That’s when the Lakers will probably take Bronny James.
Beyond that, here’s who I’d focus on:
