Mr. Fantastic

College of Charleston snagged a potential star in USC Upstate transfer Mister Dean. It's a great move for both sides. Plus, a rare 7th year of eligibility coming for at least one player, the Will Wade home-and-home series, additional scheduling news and much more.

Good morning! Just a few more hours until the weekend. Sounds great, right?

Let's get to Thursday’s news.

1. Charleston lands freshman star Mister Dean

Mister Dean was one of the nation’s top freshman scorers this season (15.7 ppg) and boasted a tantalizing mix of size (6-6), skill and athleticism. Not many fans got to see it all when he played for USC Upstate.

That should change now that he’s headed to the College of Charleston next season. More of this? Sounds great.

Dean, the Big South freshman of the year, shot 57% from the field and was one of the nation’s highest usage players at 31.8% of the Spartans’ possessions. That doesn’t always mean success when a player transfers up, but he’s regarded as a player who should handle the leap.

It’s a huge pickup for Charleston, which lost a ton of production this offseason. It landed some key pieces to replace them, with Dean being the latest. That includes 6-7 forward Colby Duggan (15.7 ppg at Campbell) and Jylnn Counter (10.5 ppg at Middle Tennessee).

Dean’s addition might have additional impacts as well.

It serves as insurance for Cincinnati transfer Connor Hickman, who still needs a waiver from the NCAA for another year. There’s also Arturo Dean, a 5-11 ball-handler (and Mister’s older brother) who is in the portal after a season at Oklahoma State. He spent his first two years at Florida International. The Cougars could use a point guard, and the Deans have talked about playing together…

Charleston could be the ideal landing spot to make that happen.
