'This one's for you'

Marquette drills Texas, giving Shaka Smart a big W against his former team. Plus, Clemson wins a showdown of SC unbeatens, K-State dismisses Nae'Qwan Tomlin, and inside Baylor's awesome offense.

We’re thinking about everyone in Las Vegas after Wednesday’s shooting that left three people dead at UNLV. Needless to say, the Dayton-UNLV game didn’t happen last night in light of the tragedy. Just senseless.

Guess we’ll try to focus on basketball.

1. Marquette dusts Texas in Shaka showdown

Shaka Smart spent six seasons coaching Texas. But he never thrived. The Horns made just three NCAA Tournaments, and never finished higher than third in the standings. When he left for Marquette after the 2020-21 season, it was best for both parties.

When Texas visited Marquette on Wednesday night, Smart said it was just another game. But Tyler Kolek wasn’t having it.

"He’s like, ‘I don’t really care. I coached there, but I don’t really care.’ And I was like ‘bullshit.’ I know you care. After the game I grabbed him and said this one’s for you,” Kolek said, via Ben Steele of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I know how much it meant to him, even though he's probably not going to say that or let that be out there.

"Whatever went on out there left a little sour taste in his mouth, I'm sure. He's never really spoke anything negative about Texas or anything like that. But I know deep down it really meant something to him."

“This one” was an 86-65 thrashing by the No. 8 Golden Eagles, who hit the gas late in the first half and left No. 12 Texas in the dust.
