Low Tide
Alabama probably won't have Aden Holloway this week after a his arrest on a felony drug charge on Monday. Plus: Butler needs a new coach, a peek at the Final Four floor, why the NIT is actually pretty good, and a rundown of early portal entrants.

1. Alabama ‘preparing to play without’ Holloway
Alabama junior Aden Holloway was arrested Monday morning on a felony drug charge. He was “removed from campus” and was not with the team as it prepared for its Round of 64 game on Friday against Hofstra.
The 6-1 guard has started 28 games, shoots 44% from depp, and is their second-leading scorer (16.8 pppg). When he’s on the court this season, Bama is 9.7 points per possession better on offense, per EvanMiya.com, and was even better with Holloway on the floor during SEC play.
But the Tide (23-9) probably won’t have him this week, and possibly beyond.
“We’ve got standards in our program. We’ve got ways we’ve held our guys accountable. We try to keep everything in house. Obviously some of the situations you can’t. This is one of those. The situation is a little different. We found out about what was going on this morning. I found out this morning. I guess it all went down this morning. We had to suspend him, pending the investigation by the UA office of student conduct. We’re certainly disappointed in his behavior. That being said, we still love him. He’s still our guy. We’re helping him get the help he needs. We’re going to continue to help him whatever way we can.
“As far as our team goes, I thought we had a great practice. We’re preparing to play without him this weekend. We’re preparing for Hofstra, who is very good. They’ve got a good backcourt of their own. I thought our guys, while at the same time, Aden is one of our guys and everybody wants to wrap their arms around him and love him. Everybody makes mistakes in life. But they also understand we’ve got to move on. We’ve got a whole other group of guys and the team’s got to go play Friday.
“I thought we did a good job of that this morning, kind of addressing the situation, what we currently knew at the time. Got our guys focused on practice. I thought we had a really good practice.“
Authorities found more than a pound of marijuana at his home. He posted a $5,000 bond and is facing a first-degree drug possession charge and a failure to affix a tax stamp charge, both felonies in the state. He could get up to 10 years in jail or a $15,000 fine.
The After Dark crew discussed how Alabama will adjust.
2. Matta retiring from Butler + more coaching news
Last Friday, Thad Matta reportedly was set to return to Butler for his fifth season. But the more reflection over the weekend changed things. He’ll retire instead.
