Late-night delights
Did you miss a pair of big upsets by Portland and Oklahoma State? Don't worry, We have the details. Plus: Minnesota surprises Michigan State, Alabama runs past Bucky Ball, Illinois dominates, and we examine the Summit League's unbeaten leader.
Good morning! Now that was a fun night of hoops.
Let's dive in.

1. Portland, Oklahoma State pull off shockers
Gonzaga’s final season in the WCC won’t be perfect. It also will have one of the more notable upsets in league history.
This wasn’t a game where Gonzaga lost it at the end, either. The Pilots (11-14, 4-8 in WCC) controlled most of the game and led for the last 25 minutes. They got a great performance from point guard Joel Foxwell (27 points, eight assists) and dominated Gonzaga in the paint. It was enough that coach Shantay Legans barely sat down despite a torn Achilles suffered last week.
James O'Donnell, Cameron Williams, and Jermaine Ballasager-Webb combined for 43 points on 15-for-22 shooting. The Zags (22-2, 10-1) are still playing without Braden Huff, but had everyone else and entered the game as a 20.5-point favorite. It left as the biggest upset WCC upset in 30 seasons and snapped a 15-game win streak.
Graham Ike scored 24 points, but didn’t get much much scoring support beyond that. The Zags shot just 40% from the field and 30% from 3.
It wasn’t the only late-night surprise.
Oklahoma State beat No. 16 BYU, 99-92, in the second win against a ranked team in the Steve Lutz era. (It beat No. 9 Iowa State last season.)
The Cowboys (16-6, 4-5 in Big 12) crushed a BYU defense that seems to be crumbling. The Cougars (17-5, 5-4) have lost four of their last five games and haven’t held a team below 1.13 points per possession in that span.
Oklahoma State capitalized on that. It scored 1.27 ppp by controlling the tempo and getting good looks inside; it went 28-for-43 (65%) on 2s.
Anthony Roy was a total superstar. He led Oklahoma State with 30 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Jaylen Curry and Vyctorius Miller also combined for 32 points.
Scoring wasn’t the issue for BYU. AJ Dybantsa went for 36 points, while Richie Saunders scored 20 and Rob Wright had 15. It committed 16 turnovers and Oklahoma State got rolling in transition.
2. Gophers solve Michigan State’s defense
The Barn was more like a House of Horrors for Michigan State on Wednesday night.
