Recapping a wild weekend

No. 2 Kansas escapes at home, but not without some controversy. Plus, Houston's all alone among unbeatens, we rank the surprising upsets, and much, much more.

I might’ve overdone it in today’s Daily. Touched on 40 games from a packed weekend of hoops. If gmail cuts off the end of message, blame the schedule makers.

Let's dive in.

1. Kansas escapes TCU. The outcry over a foul? No escaping that.

Hunter Dickinson’s bucket with 3.4 seconds remaining may have been the game-winner on Saturday against TCU, but it wasn’t the play of the game.

For that, credit his other skills. First, here’s a rundown:

With just under a minute left and No. 2 Kansas trailing by two, TCU center Ernest Udeh stole an entry pass to Dickinson, but as he was grabbing the ball, he swung his right elbow into Dickinson’s face. KU’s big man grabbed his face, fell to the floor. Officials stopped play, reviewed it, gave Udeh a flagrant 1 foul, giving KU two shots and the ball. Dickinson hit both FTs, then Dajuan Harris hit a runner to put Kansas up two. TCU tied it, then Dickinson’s basket won it.

“Hopefully I won’t have to take an elbow (to the face) to get a chance to win the game,” Dickinson said. “But I’ll do whatever it takes to win the game.”

Hunter Dickinson finished with 30 points and 11 boards. Yet that play was clearly his most impactful. And it seems everyone had an opinion on it.
