Is Flagg still the 1 for NBA teams?
Duke's sensational freshman has been an all-around star. But a superb freshman class keeps making headlines, starting with two Rutgers standouts. Who will end up being the top pick in the '25 NBA Draft? Plus, Monday's results to know, Xavier loses Zach Freemantle, Kansas as a finesse team, and much more.
Good morning! Imagine winning your school’s first-ever NCAA title. Now imagine it coming off a sudden-death overtime goal. What an ending for Vermont.
Let’s get to what mattered in college hoops on Monday.
1. We asked NBA executives: Is Flagg a lock to go No. 1?
Cooper Flagg entered this season as the top freshman prospect, and the likely No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Duke’s do-it-all forward is at the center of the Blue Devils’ impressive defense (ranked second at KenPom) and has been the best player on the floor in every game he’s played thus far.
That includes matchups against Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas and Auburn. Not too bad.
But in a class LOADED with standout freshmen — have you seen Dylan Harper play? Or the company Derik Queen is keeping? Or the defensive impact of Jayden Quaintance? or Thomas Sorber’s impact on Georgetown? Man, what a class — is Flagg still the guy who’ll go No. 1 when the draft rolls around?
Jeff Goodman asked a bunch of NBA GMs if anyone can push Flagg, or even displace him at the top.
