How to maximize foreign tour rules

Instead of one every four years, teams expected to schedule offseason trips every season. How's that affect your program?

Some important adjustments from the NCAA Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee could be happening soon.

There’s a proposal that the rule regarding college hoops programs taking foreign tours once every four years will be changed to allow travel any year. This proposal is on the fall agenda and could be voted on as soon as December.

This means teams previously planning on travel between 2027-2029 could schedule a trip in 2026.

These trips aren’t just about basketball; they’re about team bonding, cultural experience, and preparing players for what’s next. More specifically:

  • The entire roster benefits, including transfers and grad students.

  • There’s flexibility in timing. Your program can align tours with transfer portal, roster needs, recruiting windows, and NIL opportunities.

  • The competitive balance remains. It’s the same total amount of games.

Global Sports & Events (globalsande.com) has been leading the charge on this proposal and more information on what it all means, plus how they can help if you’re considering a 2026 tour.

They’re great college hoops advocates, especially if you have questions about a tour or want to plan one.
