Some bracket factoids and useful stats to know:
The East Region should have plenty of points. Six of the 16 teams are ranked inside the top 16 in adjusted offensive efficiency.
Duke has the best odds to reach the Final Four. Houston has the worst.
For 12-5 upsets? Colorado State has historically high odds to pull it off.
No team that lost three of its last four games has ever won it all. Does that mean Auburn — as the No. 1 overall seed — is worried about a potential Round of 32 matchup vs. Louisville in Lexington? Nah. Worth noting — it has the toughest region by seeds.
Four coaches in the West — Dan Hurley, Bill Self, John Calipari and Rick Pitino — have a combined 7 NCAA tournament titles. All but Hurley play in Providence.
North Carolina (more on the Heels in a bit) are in the First Four. This is the 4th-straight year an ACC will play in Dayton. Two of those teams reached the Round of 32.
Will Wade is a Clemson alum. Helluva first-round game.
Awesome fun fact, via Reddit.
14-seed Montana plays Wisconsin. The Grizz have been dancing five times since 2012, and this will be the second time they’ll play Wisconsin.
Norfolk State coach Robert Jones says the Spartans as 16 seed is a “travesty.” Notes that they won at High Point this season.
Finally, this is is remarkable. Saint Francis is still in the NEC, while Robert Morris (Horizon), Bryant (America East) and Mount St. Mary’s (MAAC) moved on.
A friend just emailed me this, I had not fully realized it:
Four teams from the 2020 NEC are in the NCAA Tournament: Saint Francis, Mount St. Mary's, Robert Morris, and Bryant
