Four-star 2027 point guard Jaxson Davis chats top six schools

Walking into the summer as the reigning Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year, class of 2027 prospect Jaxson Davis still had something to prove.

And after a standout EYBL season and invitation to USA Basketball U18 training camp, there’s no doubt Davis has proved himself as one of high school basketball’s top point guards.

Davis, the 6-foot-1 guard from Gurnee, Illinois, who recently announced a transfer to Kansas City's Monarch Academy, starred for Meanstreets this summer and averaged 15.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.6 assists (5th EYBL) and 2.4 steals (5th EYBL).

The four-star said he's now focused on getting stronger, improving his ability to see the floor and becoming a more consistent shooter heading into his senior season. Even so, Davis believes he showed coaches this summer he can step in and lead a team right away.

Meanstreets coach Jerel McNeal sees that as well.

“Jaxson, in my opinion, is probably the most underrated guard in the class of 2027,” McNeal said. “He’s a phenomenal decision maker, passer and pick-and-roll ball handler. He also has the ability to take over or close out games with his scoring and shooting ability.

“He doesn’t blow you away with measurements, but he’s a really good on-ball defender with great anticipation for deflections and steals. I envision him becoming a college hoops level household name and one of the next great lead guards — Braden Smith, Bruce Thornton, Jeremy Fears level of impact long term.”

As far as his recruitment, Davis has cut his list to six schools: Creighton, Iowa, Marquette, Michigan State, Minnesota and Ohio State. He broke down his options below and gave a couple official visit dates:
