1. Does Florida have enough to run it back?
It could be a huge week for Todd Golden and his Gators in their quest to go back-to-back as national champions. And no, this has nothing to do with their upcoming visit to the White House.
On Monday, starting forward Rueben Chinyelu announced his return to the Gators. He tested the NBA Draft waters but ultimately decided to come back for his junior season. Last year, the big man from Nigeria averaged 6.0 points and 6.6 rebounds and was the anchor of Florida’s defense.
The stay/go decision for power forward Alex Condon now looms large. If he returns, Florida’s frontcourt will perhaps be deepest in all of college basketball. The Gators are already getting back 7-footer Micah Handlogten and 4-man Thomas Haugh. Adding Chinyelu and Condon to that mix would be deadly. And don’t forget about to-be sophomore bigs Viktor Mikic and 7-foot-9 Olivier Rioux.
The only spot where Florida needs help? Guard. Luckily for the Gators, they’re in play for former Arkansas point guard Boogie Fland, who started his official visit in Gainesville on Monday. Putting him next to Princeton transfer point guard Xaivian Lee would make a great one-two-punch.
As it stands, Florida has 12 players locked into next year’s roster. Guards Isaiah Brown, Urban Klavzar, Cooper Josefsberg and Kevin Pazmino all return. The Gators add two top-40 freshman in shooting guard Alex Lloyd and small forward CJ Ingram, as well as former Ohio shooting guard AJ Brown.
There’s still a lot of “if’s,” but if a few things go right, Golden surely has another team capable of cutting down the nets in 2025-26. And hey, Florida is no stranger to back-to-back titles. Just ask Billy Donovan.
2. Louisville, Oklahoma St. add international prospects
Make it not one, but two international prospects joining Louisville’s roster next season. Mouhamed Camara, a forward from Senegal and the NBA Academy Africa, pledged to the Cardinals on Monday.
