Five-star 2028 guard Jordan Mize discusses Rotary summer, recruitment

On a team with the son of an NBA star and the No. 1-ranked prospect in the 2029 class, JJ Crawford, it can be hard to stand out.

But that certainly wasn’t the case for class of 2028 five-star prospect Jordan Mize this summer.

Mize, the 6-5 guard out of Sierra Canyon (CA), led the 16u Rotary Rebels in scoring, averaging 17.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.9 steals across 18 EYBL games. He also shot 57.9% from the field.

At Peach Jam, Mize took his game up another level, averaging 20.6 points, the fifth best-mark in the 16u field.

“I'm more of a leader,” Mize said of his game. “I can really do anything to be honest, anything coach asks me for. I can score, assist, play defense, anything. I can do whatever my coach needs me to and being a leader, you have to be able to do that.

“It's just a blessing to be honest to be out here. I'm just happy to play with Jamal Crawford, get all the information from him and everything."

You can see the elder Crawford’s mentorship through the poise and intensity Mize plays with.

“Honestly the main thing [Jamal] really wants us to focus on is our attitude and our ball movement,” Mize said. “At the higher level, not everyone's going to be a main player and stuff. Like, you're going to be able to have to play around a system. You're not always going to be the star on the team. So he just always wants us to play defense, play our role and swing the ball." 

Mize believes he showed coaches he can do just that this summer, plus his ability to have good energy and play both sides of the ball.

Because of his play, Mize has earned 16 offers to this point: Alabama, Arizona State, Cal, Creighton, Gonzaga, Kansas, LSU, Oregon, Oregon State, Sacramento State, Tennessee, UCLA, UC San Diego, USC, Utah and Washington.
