COLLEGE HOOPS’ PREMIERE PODCAST NETWORK EXPANDS WITH FOUR MORE PODS
MT. LAUREL, N.J. -- Just weeks into its launch, the Field of 68 Network has added four more podcasts to its roster: a pair of national pods, including one focused solely on women’s basketball, and also team-specific podcasts concentrating on Duke and Illinois.
• Christy Winters Scott, a Maryland Hall of Famer and current television analyst, will host “Christy’s Court,” a national podcast devoted entirely to women’s college basketball. • Former Syracuse Orange standout and 2007 Big East leading scorer Demetris Nichols is teaming up with Fox Sports college basketball announcer and Big East Digital Network personality John Fanta for a new national podcast, “Demetris and a Splash of Fanta,” that will cover the latest college basketball storylines. • Illinois’ all-time leading scorer Deon Thomas, who finished his career with 2,129 points, will host “Champaign on Ice,” a podcast dedicated to Illini basketball. • Andre Dawkins, a member of Duke’s national championship team in 2010 who spent five seasons at Duke, will host “Dawkins on Duke,” which will be about all things Duke basketball. “Christy’s Court” and “Demetris and a Splash of Fanta” join the national lineup of the three previously launched podcasts on the network: “Goodman and Hummel Podcast”, featuring Jeff Goodman and ex-Purdue star Robbie Hummel; “Inside the Mind of Miles” with former Nebraska head coach Tim Miles; and ”Dauster and Da’Sean”, starring Rob Dauster and Da’Sean Butler.
The addition of the four podcasts expands the total number to 21 for the Field of 68, a podcast network spearheaded by longtime college basketball insiders Goodman and Dauster bringing together a new generation of creators and providing the caliber of content you can only get from people that live the game.
In addition to the daily national coverage, the Field of 68 Media Network now features 16 podcasts dedicated to covering some of the most followed programs in the country, released prior to the start of the college basketball season. For more information on programming, head to thefieldof68.com.
• Christy Winters-Scott played a school-record 123 games and scored 1,679 points in her four seasons at Maryland. She was second on the all-time scoring list in Terps history upon graduation, and fourth on the all-time rebounding list with 723 boards. She spent three seasons competing professionally overseas in both Italy and Switzerland before getting into college coaching, and broadcasting. Winters Scott was an assistant coach for 10 seasons at George Mason, Maryland and Georgetown, and is currently the head coach at her alma mater - South Lakes High in Virginia - where she has won multiple coach of the year awards, and most recently won the 2020 district championship with a 13-0 conference record. Winters Scott had her jersey retired at South Lakes in 2018 and is also in Maryland’s Hall of Fame. Winters Scott currently works as an analyst for ESPN, FSN, BTN (Big Ten Network), and NBCSW, and is the color analyst for both the WNBA’s Washington Mystics and the NBA’s Washington Wizards. She also served as the host of the pre and post-game shows for the Washington Wizards on NBC Sports Washington.
• Demetris Nichols led the Big East with 18.9 points per game in the 2006-07 campaign, and was selected with the 53rd pick in the 2007 draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. Nichols spent time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks organizations over the following three seasons. He then went overseas, where he helped lead CSKA Moscow to a EuroLeague title in 2016 before winning the Greek League championship with Panathinaikos. Now, Nichols is back in Syracuse and has been featured in his early media ventures on MSG Networks and ACC Network Extra.
• John Fanta is one of college basketball’s rising media stars, and his work expands across platforms from national TV to digital and social media platforms. He has been a play-by-play announcer for Fox College Basketball over the last three years, and hosts a weekly digital show, “Big East Shootaround,” covering the latest basketball storylines across the conference on the Big East Digital Network. In addition to these roles, Fanta’s work has been featured on NBA TV, the ESPN family of networks, NEC Front Row, the MAAC on ESPN+ and more. The Cleveland native cut his teeth in South Orange, N.J., while at Seton Hall before graduating in 2017.• Deon Thomas starred at Simeon High in Chicago, where he was Mr. Basketball in the state of Illinois and also played alongside Shaquille O’Neal in the McDonald’s All-American Game in 1989. Thomas played four seasons at Illinois and finished his career with 2,129 points, making him the lone Illini player to surpass the 2,000-point mark. Thomas was selected in the first round of the 1994 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks, but instead elected to play professionally in Europe and Israel - where he spent 14 years in six countries. After his playing career, Thomas got into coaching and was the head coach and athletic director at Lewis and Clark Community College from 2009-14. He then spent two seasons as an assistant coach at UIC, and now serves as a radio analyst for the Fighting Illini Sports Network, a studio analyst for the Big Ten Network and also as the associate director for development at his alma mater. • Andre Dawkins was a highly touted recruit coming out of Atlantic Shores Christian high school in Virginia. Dawkins enrolled a year early in Durham, spent five seasons at Duke and hit a pair of critical 3-pointers as a freshman in the Elite Eight game against Baylor that helped the eventual national champion Blue Devils advance to the Final Four. Dawkins led Duke in both 3-point field goals and 3-point percentage as a junior in 2011-12, and finished his career in Durham making 41 percent of his 3-point attempts. Dawkins played briefly in the NBA, and also played overseas and in the G-League before retiring from basketball in 2017.
