1. Ohio State on the board in 2027

Jake Diebler is building momentum at Ohio State, leading the Buckeyes to the NCAA Tournament last season in his second full year at the helm.

He’s also been hot on the recruiting trail, landing five-star prospect Anthony Thompson and four-star prospects LJ Smith and Alex Smith last cycle. The Buckeyes are now off to a hot start in 2027 as well.

Four-star forward and top-35 prospect Deng Ngor announced he’s heading to Ohio State.

"A couple of days after the visit me and my family decided it was best to commit there," Ngor told 247Sports. "When I stepped on campus, the relationships that I had with coach Diebler and the coaching staff felt like how it was going to be in real life. That was my first time meeting coach Diebler and we just had a lot of genuine conversations that weren’t even about basketball. I felt like I bonded really well with him and the rest of the team. Some of the guys who are there will be there next year, and I was hanging out with them and having good conversations. It just felt right for me to go there and commit."

Ngor, the 6-8 wing, was one of the main catalysts in Team Canada’s first-ever FIBA U18 Americup gold medal this summer. He scored 15 points against Team USA in the championship game including a game-winning, left-handed fastbreak dunk with a minute left in the game.

On the AAU circuit, Ngor shined with Lu Dort Elite, averaging 12.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg and 2.1 apg. He also made 1.2 triples per contest across 15 games.

“His playmaking ability is really good and he's a versatile defender,” Lu Dort Elite coach Darnell Landon said. “And the shooting, I think a lot of people don't realize how good of a shooter he actually is for his size. Just a versatile player.”

Those around Ngor have also raved about his character and attitude. He was Lu Dort Elite’s vocal leader this summer. That’s something that will easily translate to the next level.

“Every room he walks into he brings a ton of positive energy,” Fort Erie head coach Steve Houston told The Field of 68. “It’s contagious. He’s a really special kid.”

2. Houston continues to add to talented 2027 class

Kelvin Sampson has built Houston around defense, toughness and grit, so it’s no surprise the Cougars have recruited to that identity.

The latest prospect to join the party? Class of 2027 forward Triston Hawthorne.
