1. Class of 2027 point guard dominoes fall

The industry has viewed the 2027 class as down in overall NBA talent, but the point guard class is as strong as they come and has elite depth.

Three of those point guards came off the board over the weekend.

First, Antonio Pemberton, a five-star recruit, committed to Michigan State. He could be the next stud point guard to develop under Tom Izzo, just like Jeremy Fears Jr., Cassius Winston, and Mateen Cleaves. He averaged 23.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 4.2 apg and 1.4 steals during 3SSB play this summer.

“There's only a couple kids in the country in high school that can score the basketball at all three levels the way he can. He's unguardable,” Mass Rivals coach Vin Pastore said of Pemberton. “There aren't two other guys in the country that can do what he can do.”

We also had four-star Jaxon Davis commit to Ohio State over the weekend. Jake Diebler continues to stay hot on the trail, as this is his second pickup in the last few days. He also picked up Deng Ngor, another highly-touted prospect.

Davis, a top 50 ranked recruit, averaged 15.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 5.6 apg and 2.4 steals in the EYBL. He’s also a two-time Illinois Gatorade POTY.

“He doesn’t blow you away with measurements, but he’s a really good on-ball defender with great anticipation for deflections and steals,” said Jerel McNeal, his Meanstreets AAU coach. “I envision him becoming a college hoops level household name and one of the next great lead guards.”

The third point guard off the board was Micah Gordon, who announced himself on Saturday that he was going to play for Alan Huss and the Creighton Blue Jays. This is Creighton’s third commitment of 2027, and Gordon’s a top 40 recruit across all rankings.

Additionally, this is Creighton’s highest-ranked commitment in school history. And while Gordon sits at just 5-10, he makes up for it in heart and scoring ability. He averaged 17.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg and 5.0 apg for the PSA Cardinals at Peach Jam this summer.

“I admire Coach [Alan] Huss' passion for his players and for coaching,” Gordon said of his decision. “He has a history of success at High Point. I see myself in the role Ryan Nembhard previously held at Creighton.”
