1. Fifth-year commits continue (for now)

After multiple favorable rulings for potential fifth-year seniors across all sports, we’re on commitment watch for what could be hundreds of players from the transfer portal now with an additional season of eligibility.

After a few players reportedly committed this past weekend, a trio of others made their decisions on Monday.

Starting with Malique Ewin, the 6’10 forward averaged 9.8 ppg and 5.7 rpg in 21 mpg off the bench at Arkansas last season. He averaged 14.2 ppg and 7.6 rpg in the year prior at Florida State.

The former JUCO All-American reunites with former Seminole forward Taylor Bol Bowen in Oregon’s revamped frontcourt. He’ll likely share frontcourt minutes with transfer Pharaoh Compton, Bol Bowen and returning forward Sean Stewart.

Another big man who joined a high-major program was Jalen Washington (8.9 ppg and 5.6 rpg), a 6-10 forward with 129 games at both North Carolina and Vanderbilt. After producing career-high numbers with the Commodores, Washington will remain in the SEC, playing at Tennessee. The Vols added a ton of scoring production on the perimeter this offseason, along with Loyola Chicago rim protector Miles Rubin. Washington gives Rick Barnes even more depth to work with.

The last transfer commit was another former Vanderbilt forward, Mason Nicholson. He played just five games for the Commodores last season but did start 51 games in the two prior seasons at Jacksonville State. He’s set to play for Georgia State next season, giving them both size and experience for the Sun Belt program.

And finally, while he hasn’t made any decision yet, former Villanova center Duke Brennan (12.4 ppg and 10.3 rpg) is one of the best available players looking for an extra year. Among his options are UConn, Georgetown, Oregon, USC and more, as well as a possible return to Villanova.
