1. Louisville’s smart roster build continues

Louisville made a splash in the transfer portal this spring when it signed Flory Bidunga, perhaps the best player in the portal.

Coach Pat Kelsey didn’t stop there. He’s signed a game-breaking point guard (Jackson Shelstad), a couple of capable perimeter scorers (Karter Knox, De’Shayne Montgomery), a stretch 4 (Alvaro Folgueiras) and a backup big man (Gabe Dynes), along with returning guard Adrian Wooley and incoming freshman big Obinna Ekezie.

That roster build now includes two more freshmen, both of whom should fit nicely into Louisville’s overall plans.

The first was a known player in guard Isaac Ellis, who plans to reclassify to the 2026 class and enroll with the Cardinals this summer. He figures to be a bench option, but a potent one. He averaged more than 30 points a game in Overtime Elite this season.

The second addition is a player with an international background.

Boyuan Zhang, a 6-8 wing who played in California but has extensive FIBA international experience, should also be a capable scorer. As the On3 recruiting crew note in the video below, Zhang’s a terrific shooter who can score off the ball or on the ball and has a good feel for the game.

That’s two players who fit Kelsey’s overall philosophy — shooting! scoring! — but also fit into the overall roster scheme for multiple positions.

2. Kentucky’s roster officially grows by 1 + more commits

Mark Pope’s roster build got a nice boost last week when Washington center Franck Kepnang announced he’ll transfer to Kentucky. That boost became official on Monday when Kepnang was ruled eligible for the 2026-27 season.
