Bold move
New North Carolina coach Michael Malone started his roster revamp with an experienced PG instead of an incoming freshman. That wasn't the only UNC-related news of the day, though. Plus: Indiana adds three transfers, Nebraska retains an All-Big Ten player, notable portal entrants, and we're sending good vibes to Dick Vitale.
Good morning! College hoops players only have seven more days to enter the transfer portal. Just in case you were wondering when news might start to slow down.
Let’s get to what mattered from Monday.

In the coaching world, the carousel can be a leading cause of chaos at home. Let’s be honest: a sudden move is one of the most stressful events a marriage can face, and in over 70% of relocations, the spouse is left to shoulder that burden alone.
At D1.relocation, we like to think of our services as a form of "divorce insurance." By providing a dedicated Director of Relocation Operations (DORO) to handle the logistics, we protect your family’s peace of mind so the move doesn't move you apart.

1. North Carolina goes for an experienced PG
More than 2,000 players are in the transfer portal. For those fan bases stressed about missing out on portal prizes, most haven’t even picked a program.
In fact, only a third of the Field of 68’s Top 100 players have committed to a new school.
The best player who came off the board on Monday was Virginia Tech freshman guard Neoklis Avdalas, who will stay in the ACC and play for North Carolina and its new coach Michael Malone.
In fact, the Tar Heels had quite a day.
In addition to Avdalas, they retained big man Jarin Stevenson, who started 25 games and averaged 8.1 ppg and 4.4 rpg as a solid big man. They also brought in former Providence coach Kim English as an assistant. That’s where UNC’s good news ends.
As expected, freshman Caleb Wilson announced he’ll go pro. Former Heels Derek Dixon (Arizona) and Luka Bogavac (Oklahoma State) picked new schools. But the biggest news? Five-star 2026 prospect Dylan Mingo announced that he’ll re-open his commitment. He’s the top point guard in the class, and initially picked UNC over Baylor, Penn State and Washington.
So, why did the Heels prefer the 20-year-old Avdalas? Jeff Goodman and John Martin talked it over.
Not that North Carolina was the only notable program making moves.
2. Indiana stacks up transfers + more commitments
Darian DeVries said after the season that Indiana needed to add interior depth in the transfer portal. Maybe that’s happening next.
