Big East Preview
Our Big East offseason preview is here. What was said about the league via our panel? Plus: Alabama had a point guard commit reclassify, Ole Miss, Rutgers and Kansas State received commits, and more.
Good morning! The conference preview series continued Tuesday, and there was plenty of recruiting news to go with it. Let's get to it.
Analytics on Live Data. No Pipeline. Just Postgres.
Most teams treat analytics as a separate problem. As data grows, they add a warehouse, a pipeline, a sync job. By the time data reaches their dashboard, it's already stale.
TimescaleDB takes a different approach: extend Postgres instead of splitting away from it.
Your transactions and your analytics run on the same database, on live data, with no pipeline in between.
Hypertables partition time-series data automatically as volume grows. Hypercore compression cuts storage by up to 95%. Continuous aggregates pre-compute rollups so dashboards stay fast without re-querying everything.
CERN runs it on Postgres to handle sensor data from the Large Hadron Collider.
No second database. No migration. Same Postgres you already know.

1. Notables from Big East offseason preview
Last week, the Field of 68 After Dark panel touched on the ACC offseason. You can check that out here, but this week, it's the Big East preview with Jeff Goodman, Rob Dauster and former Marquette star Jerel McNeal.
I’d recommend watching the full 1:15 episode, but here are some takeaways from the stream:
Goodman tabbed Providence as his offseason "winner." He said Providence "is probably in the 14 million dollar range" from an NIL standpoint.
Want a bold take? Dauster had one by tabbing St John's as a potential off-season loser. "They missed out on some of their best big guy targets that they wanted, and they had the injury to Donnie Freeman. If we talk about what St John's was the last two years under Rick Pitino, they had size, physicality, and Rick Pitino."
The group had some interesting takes on UConn. Goodman said, "If (Silas) Demary and (Braylon) Mullins are the best backcourt in the country, they can win it all. If they're not, they don't win it all.” Meanwhile, Dauster said, "This is a top eight team at minimum," Pointing to questions on how Seton Hall transfer Najai Hines and Duke transfer Nik Khamenia replace first-round picks Tarris Reed and Alex Karaban.
When a program legend like McNeal speaks, you listen. He thinks Louisville transfer Sananda Fru needs to average "seven to eight rebounds per game because that's the production that'll be the difference in winning and losing."
Goodman and McNeal went with Nigel James Jr. from Marquette to win the league POTY, while Dauster went with Demary Jr.
Personally, I'm big on DePaul as an underrated this year. McNeal agrees with me, tabbing DePaul as his "underrated team.” McNeal talked up a few names, including sophomore Kruz McClure and Spanish big man Fabian Flores.
The coach with the most pressure? “A layup. It’s Ed Cooley from Georgetown” Goodman said. “I’m afraid this is probably Ed’s final year at Georgetown if he doesn’t at least get them to the NIT… and with the expansion to 76, you might have to get to the NCAA Tournament.
2. Nate Oats rounds out roster with reclass
Alabama got some positive news on the reclassification front with 2027 point guard Anderson Diaz joining the 2026 class on Monday.
