1. Big East strengthens through fifth-year additions

The Big East had a notable offseason in the transfer portal with the league grabbing several of the top names. That trend continued on Wednesday with fifth-year players.

First, Marquette added former Liberty guard Colin Porter, who will serve as a quality backup to star sophomore point guard Nigel James Jr. Last season, Porter averaged 11.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg and 3.4 apg for the Flames. He’s started every game of his four-year career.

“We're thrilled to be adding the person and player that Colin is," head coach Shaka Smart said. "He's a strong cultural fit who possesses excellent basketball IQ, poise and maturity. Colin's shooting, ballhandling and passing will bolster our backcourt immediately."

Porter is named in the Kentucky state lawsuit that has received a temporary restraining order, making him currently eligible. He joins a revamped Marquette roster that should compete atop the Big East.

Smart hitting the transfer portal in August should tell you just how much the landscape has changed.

The other good news for the Big East was Vince Iwuchukwu announcing he’ll be heading back to Georgetown. The 7-footer was recently granted a TRO in New York to be immediately eligible, and he’s now officially decided to come back to college.

Iwuchukwu wasn’t healthy to start last year, but he came back and played really well, averaging 11.6 ppg and 6.1 rpg across 23.1 mpg. His best game was a 25-point, 10-rebound outing vs. Providence on March 7.

The big man adds to Georgetown’s core of Kansas transfer guard Elmarko Jackson, Kentucky transfer guard Jaland Lowe, Oklahoma State transfer guard Vyc Miller, FAU transfer wing Josiah Parker, Charleston transfer forward Chol Machot and more.

More commits to touch on:

• Fifth-year transfers Tre Holloman (6.3 ppg, 2.3 apg at NC State) and Dan Skillings (9.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg at Baylor) committed to Grand Canyon. The Antelopes will be one of the best mid-majors in the country if everyone remains eligible.

• Penn State officially signed international forwards Roko Prkacin and Francois Wibaut to round out its 2026-27 roster.

• Illinois signed Arizona State transfer guard Quentin McCoy. He’s appeared in nine games across his two-year career.

• Campbell signed 2026 guard Sincere Folk.

• SIUE signed Egyptian forward Belal Sohaib Mabrouk.

• Western Kentucky signed Nigerian forward Joseph Adebayo.

• Fifth-year Saint Francis transfer wing Skylar Wicks decommitted from Gonzaga.
