1. Baylor lands first 2027 commit
When it comes to Louisiana guards, Baylor head coach Scott Drew has had quite the track record. Jared Butler helped the Bears win their first national championship in 2021, and other names like Tweety Carter and LaceDarius Dunn have enjoyed successful careers.
The next name from The Pelican State to try and make his mark at Baylor? Class of 2027 point guard Tyrone Jamison, who announced his decision on Saturday.
Jamison, the 6-1 guard out of Calvary Christian (LA), becomes Baylor’s first commit out of the 2027 class. He’s known as a point guard who can score at will.
At Nike EYBL Peach Jam, Jamison averaged 16.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists for JL3 Elite. He’s had several clutch moments this summer, including a game-winner at Peach Jam and game-winner at the third session in Kansas City. When it comes time to make clutch plays, Jamison usually rises to the occasion.
The pedigree Drew has with guards made Baylor an easy choice for Jamison.
"Coach Drew has sent many guys to the NBA,” Jamison told ESPN. “He’s loyal to his players and his coaches. He’s a great person. I plan on making an impact but there were no promises made about playing time."
Jamison ranks as the No. 38 prospect in the 2027 class via 247Sports. He’s Baylor’s 12th highest-rated commit of all-time, just in front of names like Yves Missi and Langston Love.
2. Jamichael Stillwell chooses Texas Tech
In our last newsletter, we talked about several players who are now potentially on the market after an injunction in Ohio ruled in favor of granting class of 2022 prospects an extra year of eligibility.
Another name hoping to be granted an injunction is former UCF big man Jamichael Stillwell. He committed to Texas Tech on Friday.
