1. A media day so big, it needs two days

The start of the college basketball season always brings some sense of anticipation, but that’s especially the case for the ACC this season. The league welcomes three new programs — Cal, SMU and Stanford — to its mix of East Coast schools.

For day one of the ACC tipoff, the Field of 68 got the scoop from the six schools that were at Wednesday’s event: Stanford, SMU, Duke, Georgia Tech, Florida State and NC State.

If you have some time to kill, here’s the full 3½ hour sit down with the head coaches and select players. (We’ll have everyone else in Friday’s Daily.)

We get it, you’re a probably a busy bee. So here are some of the highlights you missed…

  • Duke coach Jon Scheyer said Cooper Flagg wants to be coached and that has made “every single guy better.” Most importantly, though, Scheyer claims he played Jayson Tatum in a 1v1 last summer and won the matchup.

  • Kevin Keatts said that recruiting the portal while making a Final Four run was a mess. “I was worrying about scouting reports, and the next minute, I’m trying to get a guy on a visit.”

  • Also, Michael O’Connell is still amazed at his game-tying buzzer-beater vs, Virginia during the ACC Tournament.

  • Damon Stoudamire believes Georgia Tech can be a dark horse team to win the ACC.

  • New SMU coach Andy Enfield said he’s “never met an alumni base that loves their school more.” He adds SMU has a lot of pieces that complement each other and he “really likes” his roster.

  • Leonard Hamilton said he didn’t think too highly of the portal before, but he “loves” the portal now. The 76-year-old Florida State coach also isn’t thinking about retirement.

  • Kyle Smith said he’s old enough to remember when Stanford was No. 1 in the country, and he’s up to the challenge to Stanford back to that level. He also declared Stanford the winners of media day. Winning before the season has even started is pretty impressive.

Also notable: ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips said he’s in favor of a “moderate, slight expansion to the [NCAA] Tournament,” especially after the ACC missed out on at-large bids the last few years.

The Field of 68 will be back with more coverage on ACC media day at 9 a.m. ET.

2. Big Ten, Big 12 and Missouri Valley drop TV times

You can finally fill out that Google calendar. Well, at least Big Ten, Big 12 and Missouri Valley fans can. Those conference revealed their TV lineups and tipoff times on Wednesday.
