1. Best of the best in college hoops
What do you do when you’re waiting for more conference tournaments to begin? You hand out some college basketball awards.
The Field of 68 is proud to announce our award winners for the 2024-25 season, as voted on by our experts (i.e.: more than just Goodman and Dauster).
First off, the National Players of the Year. Yes, players: Duke’s Cooper Flagg and Auburn’s Johni Broome.
Flagg, the fabulous freshman who leads Duke in every meaningful statistical category, and Broome, the stud senior who’s Auburn’s leading scorer and rebounder, are both worthy of the award and we couldn’t decide between the two. Let the NCAA Tournament decide who had the better season.
For the rest:
Coach of the Year: Jon Scheyer, Duke
Defensive POY: Jahmai Mashack, Tennessee
Freshman of the Year: Flagg
Transfer of the Year: John Tonje, Wisconsin
Our first-team All-Americans? They’re below. And given how good so many players have been this season, there will be disagreements on the final selections.

Second team: Mark Sears (Alabama), Kam Jones (Marquette), John Tonje (Wisconsin), RJ Luis Jr. (St. John’s), JT Toppin (Texas Tech).
Third team: Donovan Dent (New Mexico), Javon Small (West Virginia), Chaz Lanier (Tennessee), Eric Dixon (Villanova), Ryan Kalkbrenner (Creighton).

2. Drake, High Point, Lipscomb, Omaha (officially) lock up auto bids
Know what’s cool? Three of the five teams that punched their tickets to the Big Dance over the last two days did it for the first time in school history. College hoops is the best.
