1. No shortage for next season’s All-Americans

One of the best parts of NIL is it keeps players in college hoops longer than previously happened in the ‘90s, 2000s and 2010s.

It’s helped the sport’s overall health the last few seasons, and will be the same again next season. It’ll also make the list of All-American candidates really deep.

Rob Dauster and Jeff Goodman recently did a video where they discussed who would make their teams. The only surprising thing is the consensus they have for the first-team.

They have four consensus picks between them:

  • RJ Davis

  • Mark Sears

  • Alex Karaban

  • Hunter Dickinson

They differed on their final choice. Dauster has Johni Broome, Goodman went with Johnell Davis. The first four will likely be on the preseason AP All-American teams, and my guess is Broome will get the final spot.

The others they highlights on their second- and third-teams: Braden Smith, Johnell Davis, Cooper Flagg, Ryan Kalkbrenner and Kam Jones, Coleman Hawkins, Tamin Lipsey, Hunter Sallis, Kadary Richmond, Caleb Love and Robbie Avila. (Quick aside: Broome and Sears are the only returners on kenpom’s POY list, while Lipsey is the leading returner for game MVP.)

ANYWAY, that’s 16 players, all of whom are definite stars and all of whom likely will have arguments for first-team status by the end of the season.

But there will be others who play their way into the conversation.

Among the highest-rated players from evanmiya.com who’ll be around next season (and haven’t been previously mentioned): Jaden Bradley, J’Wan Roberts, Chad Baker-Mazara, Zakai Zeigler, LJ Cryer and Hassan Diarra.

And just for fun — it’s Friday, it’s July 5th, what else do you have to do? — I’d tab Wade Taylor IV, Ryan Conwell, Great Osobor, Tyrese Hunter and Ace Bailey as the ones most likely to break into that group with standout seasons.

2. Duke’s deadeye perimeter threat

It’s one thing to have a rep as a shooter. It’s another to actually be that guy.
