Prospecting for pros
College coaches hit the 3SSB Championships today (with Peach Jam closing in). Plus, Kam Jones' lofty goal, commitment updates, and a tactical move more teams should do.
There’s one thing that would complete the Cooper Flagg hype. If only College Hoops 2K would return…
Let’s get to Wednesday’s news.
Editor’s note: In our Horizon League grades yesterday, we omitted Robert Morris. They got a C, mostly because Kam Woods is now on the roster. To read the rest, click here.
1. A busy week for the July live period
It’s quite the week to be watching high school prospects.
The Adidas 3SSB Championships started on Tuesday in Rock Hill, S.C., and run through Sunday, though most of the attention will begin earnest today now that college coaches can start attending.
Peach Jam, which kicks off this weekend, will take center stage soon enough. But first, how about a quick overview of what’s happening in Rock Hill with 3SSB?
There’s an overview here from Adam Finkelstein of 247 Sports that includes the top prospects — Darryn Peterson, Koa Peat, Nate Ament and Mikel Brown are the four top players — while Ament’s Team Loaded Virginia and Peat’s Compton Magic are among the teams to beat.
As for on-court results:
Peterson has thrived thus far, per Jamie Shaw of On3.com. He’s already dropped a 38-point performance and a 20-point outing.
Ament’s snagged 10+ boards in each of his two games, and had a 16-point, 11-rebound, 4-block performance yesterday.
Josan Sanon, a new Arizona State commit, had 30 points on Tuesday night, then followed that with 37 on Wednesday morning on 13-of-20 shooting.
There are more Day 2 standouts in Shaw’s rundown.
Jeff Goodman will be in Rock Hill today, and should have some insights throughout the day.
Finally, expect a Peach Jam stage setter in tomorrow’s Daily.
2. How good can Kam Jones be?
That Cooper Flagg hype is great. But how about some Kam Jones hype?
