UConn didn't win something?
A Top 10 recruit says he's not considering UConn. That's notable. Plus, the potential for a transfer pursuit, Xavier's big announcement, what coaches want and much more.
Good morning! Is this the day that Big 12 expansion rumors go mainstream?
What if we wait another month or so, and actually enjoy summer?
Let’s get to Wednesday’s news.
1. Darius Acuff Jr. says UConn isn’t in his top 3
Only two of the top 25 prospects in the class of 2025 have committed to a program. That’s Mikel Brown Jr. (Ole Miss) and Sadiq White Jr. (Syracuse).
We may soon have a third. And he’s reportedly not considering UConn.
Despite including UConn in his list of finalists, 5⭐️ Darius Acuff says he likely won't be considering the back-to-back champs on commitment day. The No. 1 ranked PG in 2025 discusses Arkansas, Kansas, and Michigan as he inches towards a decision (On3+): on3.com/news/5-star-pg…

The 6-3 Acuff, a Detroit native, previously told scouts that he’d likely pick a school after Peach Jam and probably before mid-August. That means the coaches watching him this week were trying to put the finishing touches on his recruitment.
The 5-star prospect is “the most dominant and dynamic lead guard in the class” per 247 Sports’ Adam Finkelstein. Acuff’s had a terrific summer, whether it’s on the recruiting trail or with Team USA. He’s a terrific prospect, and one worthy of the elite 2025 class that features some of the most high-level recruits in years.
So it’s potentially good for Arkansas, Kansas or Michigan. But in the end, it’ll probably be just fine for UConn as well.
After all, the Huskies have an incoming freshman point guard in Ahmad Nowell, and St. Mary’s transfer Aidan Mahaney certainly isn’t going pro anytime soon. Without Acuff around, perhaps that opens things up for Meleek Thomas to land in Storrs?
I mean, who expects Dan Hurley to accept defeat on anything?
2. The mid-summer transfer pursuit you didn’t know you needed
David Coit entered the transfer portal in early April, but never found a landing spot. He was a scorer at Northern Illinois (20.8 ppg), but I figured his size (5-11, 170) limited interest.
Turns out it was something else.
