1. Boozer, Evans save Duke against Florida

Duke’s 67-66 win over No. 15 Florida on Tuesday was a little bit of everything. It dominated, was down late after blowing a lead, then delivered a big finish.

Sounds about right for a team that’s unbeaten yet hasn’t played perfectly in wins over Arkansas, Kansas and now the Gators.

“I don’t think we’ve played a great 40-minute game," coach Jon Scheyer said. "End of the day, I think it shows that there's a mental toughness with them just to find ways to win."

“We’ve a young team that’s going to grow more and more. You always have to learn. That’s why we did that schedule.”

The No. 4 Devils (9-0) led by as many as 15 in the second half behind another superb night from freshman Cameron Boozer (29 points on 19 shots and six rebounds), but he was the only Devils who could consistently produce. Duke was just 7-of-26 from deep and only 25-of-56 from the field. Its 1.02 points per possession were a season low.

That opened the door for Florida (5-3) to eat into the lead. Thomas Haugh (24 points) helped the Gators work the offensive boards (13 second-half points), then Boogie Fland’s 3 with 34.6 seconds left gave them the lead. It might’ve left Durham with a win if not for Duke’s Isaiah Evans ending an 0-for-7 night beyond the arc at the biggest moment.

Evans spoke about being ready for that moment on After Dark, and also praised big man Patrick Ngongba, who had 11 points, 5 boards, 5 assists and 5 blocks. (He and Boozer logged a bit of D-I history in the process.)

It was that defense that was the difference.

Duke held Florida to 18-of-39 (46%) on 2s and 7-of-28 (25%) from downtown, along with 11 blocks overall. It’ll need that type of performance when it travels to Michigan State on Saturday.

2. Syracuse finally gets a marquee win

After going 0-3 at the Players Era Festival, Syracuse needed a big win. And it got it vs. No. 13 Tennessee.
