1. Fears’ 4-point play keeps Oklahoma undefeated

About five months ago, Oklahoma freshman guard Jeremiah Fears was playing against 17U competition at Nike EYBL Peach Jam. Now, he’s the guy on an undefeated Oklahoma team.

And on Wednesday, as the clock ticked down against Michigan, he etched his name into the hearts of Sooner fans.

He hit the ensuing free throw, then No. 14 Oklahoma played just enough defense to thwart Michigan’s attempt at a game-winner for an 87-86 victory.

“It was just great,” Fears said of his shot. “It was actually for one of my teammates, but they ended up denying him and coach looked at me and told me to make a play. It just means a lot, especially as a young player, just knowing your coach believes in you and has all the trust and confidence in you as well. I think that helped me make that four-point play.”

For the game, Fears led the way with 30 points and added four assists. He’s the first freshman with 30 points in a non-conference win over a Top 25 team since RJ Barrett in 2018.

Oklahoma now has an 11-0 start — its best since Buddy Hield in 2015-16 — and remains one of four unbeaten teams in college basketball. Oh, and the SEC improved to 53-4 in the month of December, and 155-20 on the season. The league remains ridiculous.

Michigan’s senior center Vlad Goldin had 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting in the loss. The other senior big man, Danny Wolf, finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Michigan’s three losses have come by a combined five points; Michigan led by 10+ points in each. The Wolverines (8-3) have two non conference games left before Big 10 play resumes on Jan. 4

2. UConn defeats Xavier in overtime thriller

Fears may have had the shot of the night, but the game of the night was in Storrs, Conn.
