A-10 notes
We had another media day, this time on the Atlantic 10. What stood out from the show? Plus: Kansas added former Purdue big man Trey Kaufman-Renn, the AP Poll dropped, and more.
Good morning everyone! The season keeps creeping closer. Let’s get to the news.
Energy Crushed AI This Year
While most investors chased chip stocks, energy climbed around 40% to become the best performing sector of 2026. AI data centers are pulling power off the grid faster than anyone can build it. Our free report names the #1 energy stock to end the year strong.

1. Notes from Atlantic 10 media day
We’re on our last week of media days here at the Field of 68, and we kicked off the week with the Atlantic 10.
The full show is above, and we also have a full written conference preview thanks to Sean Paul. Be sure to check both out. Below we’ll have some notables from media day:
Phil Martelli Jr. talked in length about adapting his system to the players he has on his roster: “The skeleton of what we do will always be there with any of our teams. But each team is going to fill in the gaps with what works for them. Some programs, I could tell you right now these are the plays they run. We’re different than that.”
Josh Schertz lost a program staple in Robbie Avila, and the five spot this season will be more by committee with Jax Kerr, Sheek Pearson, Elijah Strong and Alon Michaeli: “We got a lot of pieces,” Shertz said. “You got four guys that will be a committee… We’re deeper than last year.”
Dayton’s 7-1 big man Amal L'Etang was named preseason first team all-conference, and returner Jaiun Simon said he’s been doing a better job using his voice: “He’s definitely gotten stronger and his finishing around the rim has improved,” Simon said.
George Mason’s Brayden O’Connor said he’s back to 100% after foot surgery ended his season last year. “The hardest thing is just shaking off the rust,” O’Connor said. Tony Skinn also said he expects big things from James Nnaji.
Saint Joe’s point guard Khaafiq Myers is your prototypical Philly PG: gritty, tough defensively, irrationally confident. “His decision making will determine how good we are offensively,” Steve Donahue said. Donahue also had high praise for freshman guard BJ Ranson.
Mike Magpayo said a priority this offseason was bringing back their five international players. The Rams kept all five: “We are a have not in the league… We don’t have the most. So when you don’t… how can we retain the guys we want?” Mission accomplished.
Duquesne’s Dru Joyce was asked about his fifth-year Tarence Guinyard and advocated for the fifth-years to get to play: “It’s unfortunate what’s happening to the class of 2022… I think some us get lost in how do we best take care of our athletes. Because I thought that’s what our responsibility was supposed to be… and that’s getting lost in the equation with court cases when it doesn’t need to be.”
2. Kansas adds big man Trey Kaufman-Renn
It’s 2026, and Bill Self is still a gangster.
